~ MISSION ~

The American Computer Barrel Racing Association was established in 1985 to fulfill the need of a system which would enable people to compete in barrel racing against horses of their own skill level. In an effort to achieve fair competition, the ACBRA adopted a computerized category system, ranking horses by lifetime barrel racing earnings. The results were very successful, and the association went from 45 members in 1985 to 268 members in 2002.

 ~ PURPOSE ~

Founded primarily to promote the sport of barrel racing, the ACBRA has integrated the following objectives:

  • To encourage, increase and enhance the participation at all barrel races.
  • To provide all levels of competition, with considerations to the differing abilities of horse and rider and to encourage the improvement of both.
  • To insure that worthy awards and prize money will be given at the National Finals Competition.
  • To improve the image and popularity of barrel racing with the requirement that all members shall exercise good sportsmanship and professionalism at all times.
  • To maintain a centralized location to impartially compute points, money and standings to qualify for the finals.
  • To integrate all the above without the intent of profit to any organization or individual or the ACBRA, as any and all proceeds, in excess of expenses, shall be returned to the members in the form of awards and prizes.
